Herb Vincent Peterson is an Associate Professor of Design, and coordinator of the graphic design program within the division of art + design located in the College of Arts and Sciences. Prior to coming to IWU, Herb held faculty positions at Herron School of Art and Design, Ohio Dominican University and The Ohio State University. He holds a BFA from Herron School of Art and Design where he studied Photography and Visual Communication Design and an MFA emphasizing in interdisciplinary research, focusing on Visual Design and Art Education from The Ohio State University.
A multidisciplinary designer and artist, Peterson has worked as a creative director with companies big and small, museums and artists, educational institutions and not-for profits. Herbs work has been featured in numerous national and international magazines, books and exhibitions including venues such as, The Wexner Center for the Arts, The Indianapolis Museum of Art, Elizabeth Gallery in London, Art-Basel; Miami, Sean Christopher Gallery; Ohio, Agora; New York, Kuhn Fine Arts Center, and Jacksson Contemporary Art.
Herbs teaching interests span a wide gamut from conceptual art practices to design processes and methods, visual communication design and typography, semiotics and visual rhetoric, co-design and community based design/design for social impact. Herb is passionate about Christ centered design and helping students tap into a life calling that is at the core of creating world changing impact.
